Lancelin Angling and Aquatic Club Safety Officer's and Radio Officer's Reports, 18 January 2002.

Lancelin Angling and Aquatic Club Logo Volunteer Marine Rescue Logo

Hello once again fellow Boaters, Members and Friends of the LAAC and LSSR Groups.

The "Warning Fishing Rigs" Tags.

As indicated they are ready to be picked up.

Unfortunately there have been reports from our friends in the professional industry that rigs have been attached to craypots and no tags or any indication was on the ropes.

This does indicate however that it was not a member of the club, so if you do see others fishing, that is visitors to Lancelin or others in Lancelin that do fish in boats let them know about the perils to the crayfishers, and encourage some form of warning on the ropes, preferably our tagging system.

Sea Rescue Sub Committee.

Once again all is going well.

More members in town have offered their time as radio operators and this is much appreciated, as you can appreciate the more operators we have the least time those that volunteer their services have to spend on call, once again thank you.

Proposed Rescue Vessel.

Sea power Australia has looked at the motor in the boat, indicating a few issues that need to be rectified.

We will be calling on you all soon to assist with a busy bee to pull the motor out; trailer repairs and a general clean up.

Already our ever-helpful Trev has removed some of the woodwork and will repair for us.

Rubber duck.

Neil Lee and young Clint Murray kept the IRB running around the bay during the windsurfing event with advertising from our sponsor, Thanks to you, both.

Windsurfing Event.

The event went off without a hitch, although we did more rescues this year than ever before due to the lack of wind halfway through the race.

Participation where 22 kites, 196 Sail boards, with 38 rescues, 14 smaller craft and one rubber duck assisted. A big THANK YOU to all those who offered their boats and vehicles for the event, I'm sure the Windsurfing Race organizers now know our assistance is invaluable to the safety and efficient running of the event, they certainly were appreciative.

A procedure was drafted prior to the day and has since been implemented for future events.

For those who were there last year, that were drowned with Trev's new high pressure hose, whilst waiting for the start of the event, will be happy, pay back this year was swift and sweet (ha!).

Also to the personnel who attended the debriefing - thank you for your feedback.

The Girls who looked after the radios over the event - your professionalism was appreciated.

Thank you to Doug, Betty and Malcolm Wauchope for his assistance and supply of the sign on the LSSR Building.

Safe Boating.

Laurie Robinson, Radio Officer and Pat Shinnick, Safety Officer and AAA Delegate.
